Empatheatre, inspired by South African struggle theatre, the theatre of the oppressed, researches and shares people’s real-life stories, with the intention of inspiring and developing a greater empathy and kindness in complex social learning spaces beset by conflict or injustice.
The Big Brotherhood is an award-winning theatre and production company based in KwaMashu, Durban. It was formed by Vumani Khumalo, Phumlani Ngubane, Ngcebo Cele, Sandile Nxumalo and Zenzo Msomi and creates productions about crime and jail life, which are performed in schools and theatres in KwaZulu-Natal.
Monique Marks is a lecturer in Sociology at the University of Natal, Durban. While her early research focussed on youth politics, her present research is in the area of policing, focussing mainly on police labour relations and police organisational transformation
