Crip: New Directions in Disability Studies
Committed to generating new paradigms and attending to innovative interdisciplinary shifts, Crip: New Directions in Disability Studies focuses on cutting-edge developments in the field, with interest in exploratory analyses of disability and globalization, ecotheory, new materialisms, affect theory, performance studies, postcolonial studies, and trans theory. “Crip” announces the intention of the series to nurture the “mad turn,” the global turn, and other transformative recent developments in the field. The single word functions as noun, adjective, and perhaps most provocatively as verb. The term “crip” has the capacity to encompass forms of embodiment or states of mind that are arguably in excess of the able-minded or able-bodied/disabled binary. Not unlike “queer” at its most radical, “crip” has the potential to be flamboyantly identitarian while rejecting the capacity of language saturated in ableism to categorize and encompass disability.
